Hoop Dreams

Our Saturdays this past month, have been filled with Jr Jazz basketball. It has been very entertaining, occasionally frustrating, and so much fun! The kids have all really enjoyed playing basketball, and Kent and I look forward to their games.
Player profile: Camille Miles
Height: Way taller than all of the other second graders
Strengths: She is a hustler. When she is out there, she is running, and wants to be in the action.
Nickname: Rebounding Machine
Camille is much more aggressive that I expected. She seems to really have fun, and is old enough to get the game a little. She is a lefty like her Mom. They don't have very many kids on her team, so she plays most of the game. She gets a good work out.
Player profile: McCray Miles
Height: WAY taller than all of the other Kindergarten kids- and he is gaining on his coach
Strengths: Desire, hustle, and rebounding
Nickname: Spicy
A couple of weeks ago, McCray scored 18 points, and 16 rebounds in his game. He had a great game. We found the secret to his success- spice. Before the game he said "I need something spicy. That is what makes me run fast." I had some Binaca type of breath spray in my purse, so I gave him some shots of "spice". And what do you know, it worked. We tried it again last week, and it wasn't quite as effective. If it really WAS the secret, Kent and I would buy stock in the company.
Player profile: Reed Miles
Height: Just about right
Strengths: Capable, aware of everything but the game, loves his uniform Nickname: Typical 4 year old
Note the picture below. What is missing? All of the other players! They are all down at the other end, playing basketball. Reed is often by himself, in his own little game.
Reed can do really well. One game he made 4 baskets. But he is just a typical 4 yr old boy. He'll do it when he wants to. Otherwise, he'll be finding all sorts of interesting things to check out around the gym.
And Miss Morgan is our little cheerleader. As long as she has her Fufu in tow, she doesn't mind the games at all.

Hilarious. I love the description of Reed playing. Oh so funny! I was laughing out loud. Your kids have great genes for basketball, so I think it's fun they're starting so early.

I like McCray's look of determination. It would be fun to watch those games.

We are rolling laughing...this is a great one. I hope you can save this for them to read later on. 18 points is a lot! Good for Camille too, I'll bet she is a great player. That is cool she is a lefty too. Reed knows that basketball is really about looking good first, THEN about playing well.

Thanks for the post.
