"Staycation"

Last weekend we had so much fun. We went on a "Staycation". Kent's brother Aaron had a voucher for a free room at the Courtyard Marriot in Sandy that they weren't going to be using. (Thanks so much Aaron and Jessica!) We were hoping to go on a no kids get-away, but that was not meant to be. So we decided to take the whole family along and have a little fun.

Because I am me, I could not just tell them what we were doing, I wanted to milk it a little. So I gave them a Ransom note, and they had to earn clues to figure out where we would be going. Poor kids, I always make them earn clues by doing jobs. What kind of Mom would I be if I didn't include work in the deal?

This is the kids reading their letter.

This is what it said:

This was the last clue:

First, we took the kids to the Dollar Show and watched the The Tale of Despereaux. It was a cute movie, and the kids liked it. It was funny because towards the end, the kids were asking when we could go to the hotel and swim. I think if that was all we did, they would have been happy.

After the movie, we went and checked in at the hotel. We had some dinner, and then came back for the Main Event.

The kids LOVED swimming at the pool. It is so nice because they are getting old enough that they can kind of play by themselves. Reed still has a ways to go, and Morgan, she would go if I let her. She was loving the water. She has no clue how to swim- but she thought she did. After swimming, we went back and showered the kids, and put them to bed. All ready for Sunday! The next morning, we got up, went home for breakfast, and got ready for church. We had a great time. Who says you have to leave town to have a vacation?

That was a good idea, and very cool of your brother and sister-in-law. I agree with the kids, I think I would have just liked to go swimming too.

That will be a good memory that at least the older ones will always remember.

That was Jay's comment above. I (Ilene) want to say you are such a cute, fun mom to make notes like you do and make them work for clues. Cute pictures.

Very fun! I bet your kids just loved it. I know my kids love to stay at a hotel and swim in the pool.

I agree with Ilene. You are so super smart having them work for clues. I'm sure they loved it and you got what you wanted!

A staycation sounds like fun. What a great idea! Yay for Aaron + Jessica.
