New Home

(WARNING: Obnoxious detail in this post. View at your own risk.) I have wanted to post some pictures of the house. I forgot the camera the first time, the second time I took one picture and the batteries died. Finally I got some. Whew. They are not great pictures, but will give you the idea. A week ago, last Wed. we went to an auction to make a bid on this house. I went with my cousin Matt who does this for a living. It was interesting to see how it worked. It was fun. the adrenaline was definitely pumping, to say the least. I tried not to get my hopes up, but you always have a hope, or you wouldn't be there in the first place. We bid against a guy for about $10k, and he finally gave up, and it was ours. When we walked away from the court house 20 minutes later we had a house. Life changes pretty quickly sometimes. We were able to see the inside for a few minutes, which was good so that we knew basically what we were getting. Sometimes you don't get the chance to see inside with foreclosed homes, and you buy them AS-IS. It is a very good home, but has a lot of work that also needs to be done at some point. The nice thing is that there is nothing major that has to be done before we can move in. It is definitely livable. We were lucky. Sometimes people leave foreclosed homes stripped down and trashed. This was clean and everything was in it's place. Nice for us. I wish that I would have taken a before front yard picture. There were tall weeds in all of the grass, the grass was dead and crunchy, and the flower beds were all covered in weeds. The day after we got it we went over and got to work. We needed to get it looking good on the outside ASAP so that the appraisal would come in at the right price for us to get our loan. It was amazing how much better it looked even after the first night there working for a few hours. Kent's parents came on Sunday night and were such a HUGE help. We got the yards all cleaned up and except for the dead grass that we are trying to bring back to life, it looks good. What a job though. It is so satisfying to have it looking nice. The home is in Taylorsville. It has 5 BR, 3 baths, and 2894 Sq feet. I really like the neighborhood right around where we live. The homes are pretty and well kept. There is shopping VERY close. And best thing of all- there is a SAVERS around the corner just a few minutes away. Anyone who knows how I shop knows how exciting that is for me! :)
This is a picture from the front porch looking out to the yard. You can see the building across the street from us. The one to our left is a Lutheran church, and diagonal to us ( behind our trees) is an LDS building. No more excuse for being late to church, right?

There is a carport on the left side. It will be nice to have some shade and cement so the kids can play back there.

It has a nice over sized garage, that we can park both of the cars in and Kent can keep clean. He is a garage guy, and they are usually way cleaner than the house. :)
I did a a before picture of part of the back yard. It of course is not a true representation. But the tall weeds give you an idea
.
This is after a day or two of work and water. Getting better but not done.

I will go through the house and give you a tour. This is the front entry way. On the right hand ( of this picture) side is the
living room.
The LR window looking left

LR with entrance into the dining room, as you look to the right.
This is a straight shot looking from the front door. My worst nightmare- you can see the kitchen sink. I think this is the only thing that is not great.

From the entrance, the first right takes you down the hall. The 2 doors on the right are the kids BR. The closed door at the end of the hall, is the main bathroom. The Master is the room on the left.
 Main Bathroom

It is interesting that it does not have a shower. We will have to rig it up somehow, until we can put in a shower some day.

Now, back in the kitchen, looking downstairs.
From the stairs, turning right is the family room. It is in the shape of a C.
The long wall of the family room

From the fireplace looking into the other side of the room. The little door is an under the stairs little storage room.

When you are at the bottom of the stairs and turn left, the first room is the laundry. When I first saw it I thought it was long and skinny, and nothing to write home about.
When I went in, and looked to the right, there is a craft/sewing room. I am so excited! It makes the iffy laundry room wonderful. This room also has the furnace and that kind of stuff in it. Nice carpet huh?
This is a bedroom on the right of the hall. The roof is not done, and the carpet is held together in the middle by duct tape. It does have a lot of light and a closet space roughed into it with a rod.
This is the second BR on the right. It has been finished, and isn't bad. It does have some groovy paneling that will have to be taken care of. These rooms aren't much if you were living there. BUT, they are very available for visitors. The downstairs bedrooms are not creepy, just need to be re-done. Straight down the hall is a bathroom, that I don't have a picture of. There are problems in there. There looks like there have been leakage problems, that need to be taken care of. Thankfully this is a bonus bathroom, so it isn't a big deal.

Down the hall to the left is the fruit/storage room. Minus the carpet, this room is great. It is an l-shaped room, and has quite a bit of shelves. And it has a fake butcher knife. What more could you want? So there you have the tour. I am sorry for the obnoxious detail, but I wanted Mom and Dad to get a picture of where everything is. I have tried describing it, but I think this will help. We feel blessed, like we have a lot of work to do, and excited. We sure hope that you come to stay with us sometime. We finally have a little more room. We are hoping to close in the next week, week and a half. After that we can start moving in and changing the inside. (paint) Up to this point, we pretty much have only been working on the outside.

Week With No Kids

Kent's Parents are doing a "Cousins Camp" this week. They have 11 of the grand kids at their cabin and have all sorts of fun things planned. The kids are having a ball so far. It was sad to leave them at the cabin. I even got teary for a few minutes, but then I was ok. I have been really excited to have a week to get some things accomplished. I think that I am going to make a list of things that I have been able to accomplish this week.
Monday-
  • Traveled home ( more about that later) , and worked until 11pm.
Tuesday-
  • Got up early and Kent and I worked out at the gym
  • Came home and had the goal to DEEP clean our room. We started, and about 10 minutes into it, I got SICK. It just came from out of nowhere. I was SO MAD! This was my time, and I didn't want to waste it. Kent was great and cleaned our room and bathroom, while I rested on the bed. Thankfully I was feeling a little better by about 1pm, and just took it easy the rest of the day.
  • Did the captions for the kids picture books, and printed them all off. This has been an ongoing project since Christmas 2007. Still need to finish the rest. I have to cut out the captions, and mount them on another paper.
  • Made a photo order from Snapfish before my account expired.
  • Did 4 loads of laundry
  • Cleaned up the kitchen and picked up house.
  • BED!
Wednesday-
  • Kent has had two long sleeved work shirts that we had holes in the elbows. He was wanted me to fix them for a long time, and I have tried to find every possible excuse to get out of it. Well, the time had come, and I did it this morning. I was actually thinking it was a great job this morning because while I did that, Kent deep cleaned the other 2 bathrooms.
  • Went to a going away party at work for a friend of mine.
  • Went to DI and bought a juicer/canner type on thing for $5.00. I was excited. Little by little I am getting more equipped to be a canner.
  • Bought a salsa maker little chopper machine. I have wanted one for a long time, but didn't want to pay $10. I got this one for $3.00 at DI.
  • Bought a super cute skirt for $4.00 at DI.
  • Went to Thriftown, another thrift shop that I like to go to. Bought a pair of jeans and a little bag of Legos.
  • Went to a store called Home Again. It is a consignment shop with furniture and accessories. I have heard about it for a long time, but have never dared go with the kids. Good thing. It was very fun and they had a lot of inspiring ideas that I could do with re- purposing some of the furniture that we have.
  • Came home.
  • Made 3 hooded towels for baby gifts.
  • Made another nursing cover out of the same cute fabric for a baby gift.
  • Finished making 3 Birthday banners.

Grandma and Grandpa Payne's Visit

My parents were just here for about 10 days. We really enjoyed being able to spend some time with them. In fact, the day that they arrived, the kids were still down in Cedar City, and Kent was at work. I was with my parents all by myself! That has not happened for years. I really enjoyed it. Is that selfish? :)

We were able to do some fun things while they were here. One night they got to go to the kids baseball games, and the kids loved to have them there. We had some Bar b ques with Erin and Kelly, and also went to their house one night for banana splits. So yummy and fun to visit! Mom, Erin, and I had a girls day. We must be getting old, because we went to the fabric store, had lunch, and went home. We couldn't really think of anything else that we were dying to do. And we were all tired. :) It was nice though.

On Friday morning, we went to the Oquirrh Mountain temple open house. We chose a good time, because there were not too many people there, it wasn't hot yet, and we didn't have to wait in any long lines. It was a beautiful temple. I love that our kids have had 2 chances to see a temple open house. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to get to see the different places in the temple, and it gives us the chance to explain to them more about it. It was special to have Grandma and Grandpa Payne there too. On our way out of the tour, we saw the Halgren's, Lindsay's in-laws. They had been on a tour before us, and it was fun to run into them.

The kids really enjoyed spending time with Grandma and Grandpa. The boys shared bunk beds with Grandpa (the boys shared the top, and grandpa was on the bottom), and he would tell them a story sometimes at night. Camille commented that she wished that she could have heard the story. He has some great stories to tell about when he was a kid, and they LOVE to hear them. They loved getting and giving hugs and snuggles too. It was a treat to have them come.

Morgie cute saying

Morgan: Mom, you have blue eyes. I like them. Mom: Thanks Morgan, I love you! Morgan: I have Hailey (hazel) eyes Mom, and I like them too. Hailey is pretty close Morgie, pretty close. :)

July 4th Weekend

We had a really nice 4th of July weekend. We were able to go down to Cedar City and visit Kent's family. We hadn't been home for awhile, and it was nice to be there, and see some of the family. Kent also had his 20 year HS reunion. We were able to attend it, and we had a great time. Kent has some nice friends, and they have nice wives. It was a really busy weekend attending reunion activities. We never have as much time as we would like when we go down there. One thing we do every year, is go to the little parade they have. This was the best year ever, because we were late, and we stood in the shade. It is always so hot that by the end, you wonder why in the world you are there. They have a party in the park, where you usually run into friends and people that you know. We went to that, and had a good time. They have a fishing booth every year. We usually let the kids do that at the beginning, and they are happy the rest of the time.

Sunday night we went up to the cabin on Cedar Mountain. Grandma and Grandpa Miles had a Cousin Camp for the grandkids, and a lot of them were able to come. We stayed up there for one night. It was beautiful! I wish that we could have spent more time there. Except, maybe not during cousin camp. :) I was amazed at my in-laws. They had so many fun activities planned, and they had so many kids there. They are brave!!! It was a little sad to leave the kids. I got a little teary for a few minutes. The kids didn't get sad at all. Hmm.

Some Like it Hot

Monday has become our family day, because that is when Kent has his day off. We had a nice day today. We went to Kelly and Erin's house this morning to weed the garden. It was HOT, and the kids complained a lot. They have no clue about working in the heat- right Lindsay, Jay and Taylor? We should send them out to Florida to work outside for a day, and they will know what hot is! :) They tried though. I actually kind of enjoy weeding. As long as the weeds will come out easily. It is always a satisfying feeling when it is done and looks good. When we got home, we were all sweaty and hot, so we ALL ran through the sprinklers. The kids were dying for Kent and I to do it too. We were game, and it felt soooo nice. It was really fun. Of course Kent and I didn't last as long as the kids did, but it sure felt good.
The kids had a ball getting wet. Reed disappeared for a minute, and came out with his goggles that he got for his birthday. Everyone needs goggles when they run through the sprinklers, right? He has been DYING to have a chance to use them.

They all ran through for quite a while, and when they were done, they all laid down on the driveway to dry off.

Here is out little bathing beauty.

Jr Bees Baseball

The kids played coach pitch baseball and t-ball in June and July. The weather was nice, and it was really enjoyable to be out at night, watching the kids have fun. I have to admit that I look forward to the day when they play competitive sports. I think it will make it a little more exciting. But they are young, they just need to have fun for now. Camille and McCray were on the same team. That really helped so that it wasn't so crazy. I think they are all game to try it again.

Reed has a good throw, and can hit well. We had to remind him when to run occasionally when he was checking out something more interesting than the game. It is getting better-way better than basketball.

McCray loves to hit, and every time he was at bat, he swung like he was trying to get a home run. Do you see his tongue sticking out? He always does that when he is concentrating. He was great in the outfield, and many times fielded most of the balls. I was a little embarrassed at first and thought he should give the others a chance. But I guess if you are willing to hustle after the ball, you deserve to get it!

Camille is our lefty, and unfortunately I was sitting on the wrong side. She always hit it out into the outfield, and that made her happy. 3 cheers for being a lefty! In fact, she is using my glove, because she has grown out of hers. She is growing up too fast.

And once again, Morgan was in the cheering section. She doesn't seem to mind, until they pass out the snack after the game. That is when she thinks that she is missing out.
